Welcome to the Newport Chemical Depot
Reuse Authority website

NEW MARKETING BROCHURE

As the transfer of the Newport Chemical Depot from the Army to the local community nears, the Newport Chemical Depot Reuse Authority is gearing up to promote the site to the development community and future users. While a comprehensive Strategic Marketing Plan for the Depot will be prepared in 2011, an interim marketing brochure has been developed. Take a look at the new brochure by using the link below:

TRANSITION TO IMPLEMENTATION BEGINS!

Now that the Newport Chemical Depot Reuse Plan has been completed, the Newport Chemical Depot Reuse Authority is moving into Implementation Phase and preparing for the transfer of the Depot from the Army to the Authority later in 2010.

The Authority is also getting ready to launch several follow-up studies and plans in 2010 as part of the Reuse Plan implementation. Just like the Depot, this website is also beginning a transition. Set up as the primary public communication tool for the Reuse Planning process, this website will be modified over 2010 to reflect the Authority's implementation role, to help market the Depot to new users, and to provide information to the public regarding future studies, plans, and projects.

Already, new jobs are heading to the Depot, and the Authority has begun marketing the Depot as Indiana's premier Business & Technology megasites.  While the Depot's strategic marketing plan, site branding, and other details are still in their early stages, here's an advertisement that was recently released by the Authority (click to make bigger):

Keep your eye on this website throughout 2010 for news and information about the Depot's transition to its civilian future!

WHAT IS THE NEWPORT CHEMICAL DEPOT REUSE PLAN?

In late 2005, Congress approved the Department of Defense 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) recommendations, which included the closure of the U.S. Army's Newport Chemical Depot in Vermillion County, Indiana.

In preparation for closure, the Newport Chemical Depot Reuse Authority (NeCDRA) was created to complete a reuse master plan for the depot. Over the course of 2009, the NeCDRA and its consultant team will work with the local community to create a plan and implementation strategy for the conversion of the depot to civilian use. The Newport Chemical Depot is required by law to be closed by 2011, but could potentially close ahead of schedule in 2010.
